LG Electronics (LGE), a leading player in the global flat panel display market, last night presented its Scarlet TV, the world’s slimmest LCD TV, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Amman. The company's presentation formed part of a worldwide marketing campaign led by high-profile TV series director David Nutter.
cioLG Electronics' new Scarlet TV (LG60 Series) received a huge amount of attention at its glittering launch event 'Scarlet on Air' held last night in Istanbul, Turkey. At just 1.7 inches (45mm) thick, it is the world's slimmest LCD television.
Challenging its global rival Samsung, on the back of new features and styling, LG officials announced that it intends to become the number one player in the LCD (liquid crystal display) and plasma segments in India by 2009.
The next battlefront for the rapidly commoditizing flat-panel TV segment is going to be fought through upmarket design and strong styling. In this respect, LG is well-positioned to undertake this challenge with its Scarlet LCD TVs, unveiled today at the Singapore Flyer observation wheel. First announced during the Consumer Electronics Show 2008, it has already bagged the US tradeshow's Innovation Award, though these localized sets are not entirely similar in hardware capabilities.
With a striking, slim silhouette, red back and round aperture surrounded by LED lights, this intelligent device sports a design intended to connect with viewers on an emotional level. A soft touch sensor makes even simple tasks like turning the TV on and off more tactile and appealing.
LG Electronics fooled everyone with its "Scarlet" campaign. For three months it made readers and TV viewers believe that a new movie starring model-actress Natassia Malthe and produced by David Nutter of the hit show The Sopranos was in the making.
Consumer electronics and durables maker LG Electronics India is planning to strengthen its position in the LCD and plasma television market and nearly double its turnover to Rs 16,000 crore by 2010.
